Elena e Robert sono gemelli. Trascorrono un ultimo weekend insieme, prima che la sorella sostenga l’esame di filosofia che forse le aprirà le porte per una brillante carriera universitaria e quindi l’accesso ad un futuro migliore, ma che d’altra parte la costringerà ad allontanarsi dal fratello. In mezzo alla natura cercano risposte alle grandi domande della vita, interrogando i filosofi attraverso i libri, indagando l’ambiente attraverso le sue forme, aspettando che la verità si mostri.

La rapina finisce male, un'anziana resta uccisa, mentre la cameriera riesce a fuggire e ad allertare le guardie che a loro volta irrompono nell'appartamento uccidendo brutalmente due dei rapinatori. Il terzo, Miguel, si mette in salvo, però viene preso da alcuni dei residenti che decidono di non consegnare il ladro alle autorità. Vogliono processarlo a casa di Alejandro durante la festa del suo compleanno.

Tim incontra accidentalmente un soggetto che potrebbe fare proprio al caso suo. Si tratta di Barry, esperto in tassidermia che ha come hobby quello di ricreare dei quadretti ispirati spesso ad opere d'arte utilizzando topolini mummificati. Nulla di orrorifico ma sicuramente qualcosa di molto, molto poco comune. Barry entrerà così nella vita di Tim scombinandola senza volerlo.
