Over 1,000 years ago, the islands of Polynesia were explored and settled by navigators who used only the waves, the stars, and the flights of birds for guidance. In hand-built, double-hulled canoes sixty feet long, the ancestors of today's Polynesians sailed across a vast ocean area, larger than Europe and North America combined. To explore this ancient navigational heritage, anthropologist/filmmaker Sanford Low visited the tiny coral atoll of Satawal in Micronesia's remote Caroline Islands. There he spoke with Mau Piailug, the last navigator to be ceremonially initiated on Satawal, and one of the few men who still practice the once-essential art of navigation in the Pacific. In a dramatic demonstration, Mau Piailug sails a replica of an original Polynesian canoe from Hawaii to Tahiti: 2500 miles across the ocean without benefit of sextant, compass, or any other Western navigational instrument.

Per effettuarla prende contatto con la comunità locale ed una delle donne più rappresentative le fa conoscere uno scorbutico ma espertissimo pescatore al quale dà l'incarico di introdurre la giornalista alla problematica. Il pescatore dapprima rifiuta trattando Edith in modo tanto scostante da indurla ad andarsene via dalla barca, ma in un secondo tempo viene "convinto" a ripensarci.

One spring day when the autumn colors had filled, three members of the movie club suddenly decide to borrow a senior's car and take a trip to an isolated village in Mountain Nae-jang. Being their first trip there, they get lost a little and witness a terrible accident and they pick up a navigation device nearby. The kind voice on the device leads them to their destination but they end up somewhere they never expected. They decide to take a break and find a piece of flat stone to grill some meat on but they realize the stone was a gravestone and hurriedly run away in their car. Navigating the Amazon: A Voyage with Jorge Mautner / 2006
In March 2006, the team for the Navegar Amazônia project left the Jandiá Channel in Macapá, bound for Belém. On board a regional boat, adapted with a modern multimedia laboratory, were the project team and thirty persons, including musicians and filmmakers. The objective was, along the way, to offer workshops in music, cinema, photography, video and art to the population visited on the river's edge. The documentary is a record of the interaction between the guests and the local population. The Navegar Amazônia project captures and conveys contents of the Amazon in a unique way: from the heart of the forest and from the river to the world.

“Navigation” is the name of a documentary film directed by Hossein Rajabian, the Iranian filmmaker.It was produced for an anthropological NGO in the Middle East, but was never released due to censorship in Iran.The movie is about a group of children between eight and twelve years of age who had not left their village before the production of the work in 2005. They had not even gone to nearby villages because of the impassibility of the roads in their place of residence. However, one day, their teacher decides to take them to the sea. Their trip accidentally coincides with the travel of Anousheh Ansari, the first female Iranian astronaut, to space. The movie simultaneously narrates both events.
