Albin, meglio noto sotto il nome di Zazà, l'illustre drag queen del cabaret "La cage aux folles" in Costa azzurra, vuole dimostrare al suo amante Renato (Ugo Tognazzi) di essere ancora sexy. Nel maldestro tentativo di sedurre un uomo per ingelosire Renato, si trova suo malgrado coinvolto nell'omicidio di un altro uomo, il quale, con le ultime forze, consegna a Zazà un importante microfilm. Questo fatto metterà sulle tracce di Albin e Renato spie e poliziotti che costringeranno la coppia a fuggire in Italia, presso la famiglia di Renato, in una sperduta campagna. Albin, travestito da donna, si fingerà così la moglie di Renato e contribuirà alle faccende domestiche della casa. Presto però polizia e spie ritornano sulle tracce dei due che riescono tra mille peripezie a salvare la faccia e le penne in un romantico finale.

An African physician returns home after studying medicine in Paris. He marries and settles down to life in the bucolic splendor of his native land. When he has a confrontation with a white plantation owner, the white man sees red and casts a spell on the African doctor. Although he realizes the curse is an ancient tribal superstition, he still is plagued by the ghost of his late first wife. The black doctor and the white man are assimilated into cultures in which neither of them were born in this vexing jungle tale.

Albin, compagno di vita di Renato, scopre di essere erede di una ricca duchessa scozzese, nel cui testamento è scritto chiaramente che se Albin non si sposerà e non avrà figli, tutta la sua eredità passerà al cugino di Albin. Dopo un primo momento di scoraggiamento, in cui Albin e Renato si danno per vinti, i due convincono una giovane ragazza madre di nome Cindy a sposare Albin, assicurandole un ricco avvenire nonché il titolo di duchessa che le spetterà di diritto. Prima però che il matrimonio possa aver luogo Cindy si innamora proprio del cugino di Albin. Con buona pace di tutti Cindy sposerà il cugino di Albin e l'eredità verrà divisa tra le due coppie. Il matrimonio di Cindy sarà l'occasione per Renato e Albin di improvvisare un finto matrimonio e di partire, finalmente, in viaggio di nozze.

The crime was killing a small boy who had inadvertently gotten in the line of fire during a service station hold-up gone wrong, and Anne has never been able to forgive herself.
