In a unique blending of perspectives layered around the camera, Inversion creates an open space to expand female consciousness, as an embodiment of the film itself. Through this exploration of (her)self and the landscape of the body, the viewer is invited to reflect upon one’s own bodies and gazes, engaging in new dialogs between filmmaker, subject and viewer through the reflection of the camera.

In my video made with 1 iPhone photo, 13 Instagram masks, and my track, I, without leaving the house, of course, reflected my coexistence, a form of contact, in quarantine lockdown with my neighbors. During this difficult period of isolation, I was left alone with my neighbors in a new building. Every day they drill into all the walls and it seems already into my head. My hearing transforms. I took my violin, Octatrack, Korg, Kaoss Pad — and we played together like an industrial orchestra. Through this experiment, you heard the noise of repair in a new way. Now, this is the music.

An odd assortment of 'house guests' turns up through different means and it's an uneasy mix at best. A decade afterwards, the bodies of a young woman and an infant are discovered in the woods behind the house. As the police investigate, they naturally look to Adam as former owner of the house, and what happened all those years before starts to catch up with him.

A series of collages recreating the photographs of well known artists (Uta Barth, Kohei Yoshiyuki, Candida Hofer, Deborah Willis) and a very slight suggestion of the actual photographs. London 26 and 28 March 2020: Imitation: Inversion /

The film started as 40 minutes of shots of London during the first UK Covid 19 Lockdown (the strict phase of which began on 23 March 2020). These were taken on my phone during permitted exercise (cycling). The shots from 26 March are “imitated”. On the alto saxophone I have recreated and recorded as many as possible of the original sounds from the (poor-quality) audio on my phone-shots, and thus replaced the original audio. The shots from 28 March replace the original audio, too, but are “inverted”. I wanted to make a soundtrack that was in some definable way the OPPOSITE of the actual sounds recorded on my phone.

Taking a more structural approach to the filmed image, this work explores a preoccupation with reflections, with Deleuze and the 'crystal image'. Gaston Bachelard, in Water and Dreams, thought Narcissus might never fall in love with his reflection had he seen himself in a clear glass mirror – rather he needed the mirror like surface of a pool, animated with the movement of wind, with depths and currents, translucency, reflected sky, the perceptual distortions that stimulate imagination and reverie.

Inversion/Reflection: What Does Balfron Tower Mean To You? / 2015

Balfron Tower, an example of the abandoned Futurist path of architecture that haunts the area surrounding the cold, gaping maw of Blackwall Tunnel, offers romantically dystopian views of Poplar’s social housing ghetto, with the silhouette of the imperial seat of power, wrapped in a glass-and-concrete shell of our debts, on the horizon. Our future is not determined by what we have managed to create, but first and foremost by our failed dreams and fantasies. We should pay more attention to them.

Inversion/Reflection: Turning Balfron Tower Inside Out / 2014

Over a period of three years, Rab captured large-format colour transparencies, from the same position in over 120 of his neighbour’s flats in Ernö Goldfinger’s Grade II listed Balfron Tower. The resulting transparencies depict a “fascinating and moving” (Barnabas Calder, 2014) portrayal of a community living with housing insecurity.

Contra-Internet Inversion Practice #1: Constituting an Outside (Utopian Plagiarism) / 2015

This video begins with the familiar interface of the Macintosh OS X desktop, with only one folder shown, labeled "contra-internet." The user clicks over to iTunes, plays the song "Get Off the Internet" by Le Tigre, and then opens a series of PDFs of theoretical and political treatises, copying and pasting selected passages into a new text document and then using the find and replace feature to rewrite their meaning. Texts by J.K. Gibson-Graham, Fredric Jameson, Paul B. Preciado, and Subcomandante Marcos that originally opposed economic and sexual hegemony are repurposed as part of a manifesto against the internet itself, critiquing its logic and suggesting possible alternatives. This is the third work presented as part of Real Live Online, curated by Lucas G. Pinheiro and Devin Kenny. It follows IDPW's Internet Bedroom, and João Enxuto and Erica Love's Waiting for the Internet.
