Archival film, dramatizations, and special effects feature what occurred aboard the Enola Gay (the aircraft that dropped the bomb) and inside the exploding bomb.

Hiroshima is a 1995 Japanese / Canadian film directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara and Roger Spottiswoode about the decision-making processes that led to the dropping of the atomic bombs by the United States on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki toward the end of World War II. Except as actors, no Americans took part in the production. The three-hour film was made for television and evidently had no theatrical release, but is available on DVD for home viewing. A combination of dramatisation, historical footage, and eyewitness interviews, the film alternates between documentary footage and the dramatic recreations. Both the dramatisations and most of the original footage are presented as sepia-toned images, serving to blur the distinction between them. The languages are English and Japanese, with subtitles, and the actors are largely Canadian and Japanese.

Hiroshima, 1950. Sullo sfondo delle guerre tra clan malavitosi per l'ascesa al potere si svolge la storia d'amore tra il neo yakuza Shoji Yamanaka e la nipote del potente boss Muraoka, Yasuko. Questa lo porta a casa dopo che è stato violentemente malmenato nel suo locale, ma Muraoka ritiene la situazione sconveniente per una vedova che ha perso il marito, kamikaze nella seconda guerra mondiale appena terminata. Muraoka trasferisce quindi Shoji nella propria dimora e offre a Yamanaka, che accetta, di entrare al suo servizio, ma questi ne suscita presto l'ira facendosi troppo audace con la nipote. Sono passati tre anni dal bombardamento di Hiroshima e la città è ancora un cumulo di rovine. Gen, un bambino che ha perso fratellino, sorella e padre per colpa dell'atomica, vive il difficile periodo della ricostruzione del Giappone nell’immediato dopoguerra. Con il fratello adottivo Ryuta diventa amico di un gruppo di orfani. Intanto la madre si ammala in seguito alle radiazioni provocate dalla bomba atomica.

Hiroshima - Ahead of Us? / 1981
This work produced by Swedish television, where Swedish kids reads texts written by Japanese kids about their experiencing of and surviving the bombings. In the film we see images/drawings painted by these children. Nestlers inspiration comes from the book Children of the A Bomb "Five years after the atom bomb fell on Hiroshima, a Professor of Education at Hiroshima University organized a project to preserve for the record the stories of those who had been on the receiving side of that catastrophic explosion.
