Generations is an American soap opera that aired on NBC from March 27, 1989, to January 25, 1991. The show was groundbreaking in that it was the first soap opera to feature from its inception an African-American family.

Generations is a 30 minute 16mm film about mentoring and passing on the tradition of personal experimental filmmaking. Barbara Hammer, 70 years old, hands the camera to Gina Carducci, a young queer filmmaker. Shooting during the last days of Astroland at Coney Island, New York, the filmmakers find that the inevitable fact of aging echoes in the architecture of the amusement park and in the emulsion of the film medium itself. Inspired by Shirley Clarke’s Bridges Go Round, both filmmakers edited picture and sound separately, joining their films in the middle when they finished making a true generational and experimental experiment.

Sua madre single, Maggie (Naomi Watts), deve quindi rintracciare il padre biologico per ottenere il consenso legale per il cambiamento. Dolly (Susan Sarandon), la nonna di Ray, ha qualche difficoltà ad accettare la scelta di sua nipote. Tutte loro si ritrovano a dover fare i conti con la propria identità per comprendere la trasformazione di Ray e ritrovare la serenità e l’equilibrio della famiglia.

L'OAV comincia mostrando un giovane Gouki (Akuma in Europa) che si allena presso il tempio del suo maestro, Goutetsu, col suo compagno Gouken. Gouki è visibilmente più debole dell'amico e perde sempre nei loro incontri, ma ciononostante è Gouki a godere delle attenzioni della bella e giovane figlia del maestro, Sayaka, la quale pare visibilmente affezionata a Gouki e si prende continuamente cura di lui. Ma quello che sta a cuore a Gouki è solamente la forza, infatti cerca insistentemente di farsi spiegare dal suo maestro il segreto del Dark Hado, una tecnica che permette di sfruttare un'energia smisurata. Ma Goutetsu si rifiuta categoricamente perchè sa che quella tecnica divora l'animo delle persone e li trasforma solo in macchine assassine senza più una volontà. Gouki non gli da ascolto e continua a perseguire il suo obiettivo, fino a quando non vi riesce e di compenso uccide anche il suo maestro, lasciando nella più profonda incredulità e sgomento Gouken e Sayaka.
