Die Ratten was produced by actress and singer Grete Ly. Her company, Grete Ly-Film, made five films between 1919 and 1921. Die Ratten, which is based on the play of the same name by Gerhart Hauptmann, was the last one. Hauptmann, one of the most important promoters of literary naturalism, had received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1912. The screen adaptation of his play is beautifully photographed in a realistic style by Karl Freund, one of best German cameraman of that time who also worked with directors such as Lang, Murnau, Dreyer, Dupont and Ruttmann. Moreover, the cast of Die Ratten also acts in a very naturalistic way, far from the affected expressionistic style. Die Ratten was made on a modest budget, but the collaboration of an excellent team produced a film that was ahead of its time.

Il tuo amico topo si inserisce nella tradizione dei cortometraggi educativi della Disney degli anni '50, e tratta del ruolo del ratto nella storia e nella società umana, ovviamente con il tono ironico proprio dei cartoon. Dopo aver analizzato gli scontri fra uomini e ratti, i due roditori protagonisti Remy e Emile auspicano infine un periodo di amicizia. A questa utopia dedicano una canzone, Plan B (Piano B in italiano), scritta appositamente per il cortometraggio da James G. Dashe (musica e testo) e Jim Capobianco (testo).

His mother works in a bar and Ciske helps out often late into the night - his father is at sea and his mother supplements her income with prostitution. Ciske is also a very angry young man and he smoulders with rage at life's injustices.

Mentre festeggiano trovano un cadavere sul quale i topi pasteggiano. Video (Alex McBride) rimette in funzione le apparecchiature elettriche ed elettroniche, computer compresi. Interessati e soddisfatti, Kurt e i suoi si sistemano per la notte, ma i topi cominciano ad attaccare e a uccidere.

When Rita and her young gang members get involved in a minor turf war, the violence escalates out of control, touching everyone and sparing no one.
