Per placare i suoi tormenti, Vernon, che è un ex-spacciatore, gli offre un farmaco in via di licenza in grado di aumentare le capacità dei recettori neuronali ed attivare tutte le aree del cervello. Il farmaco ha subito un effetto incredibile su Eddie, facendogli non solo recuperare l'autostima perduta ma anche tutti i ricordi più distanti e reconditi. Quando l'effetto svanisce, decide di tornare subito da Vernon per farsi dare altre pillole, ma una volta raggiunto il suo appartamento, trova l'ex-cognato morto sul divano, ucciso da qualcuno interessato allo stesso farmaco.
