A Flaming Forest /

This film explores the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, home to the Soliga adivasis, highlighting their deep connection with the forest and the impact of exclusionary conservation policies since 1974. Documenting five decades of Soliga resistance and the ecological effects of restricted practices, it challenges forced eviction models and advocates for recognizing Soliga rights. This work is the result of a two-decade collaboration between researchers and filmmakers.

Oga Kazuo Exhibition: Ghibli No Eshokunin - The One Who Painted Totoro's Forest / 2007

From July 21 through September 10th, 2007, the Museum for Contemporary Art Tokyo held an exhibition honouring Kazuo Oga, the art director and background artist for many famed works from Japan's Studio Ghibli. Over 600 works from the artist were on display, and numerous fans flocked to the one-of-a-kind exhibition celebrating the lush, gorgeous background artwork typifying many a work from Hayao Miyazaki and other Ghibli filmmakers. International fans of Oga and Studio Ghibli have not been left out, however. A Ghibli Artisan - Kazuo Oga Exhibition - The One Who Drew Totoro's Forest allows fans the opportunity to attend the exhibition, as well as watch interviews and testimonials with Oga's contemporaries and collaborators, all subtitled in English.

Durante la dinastia Tang, in Cina, si forma un'organizzazione di ribelli, conosciuta come l'alleanza dei Pugnali Volanti ("Feidaomen", 飛刀門); essa è composta da rivoluzionari, abilissimi guerrieri ed assassini, che si oppongono all'imperatore, ritenuto, per la sua inettitudine, colpevole della decadenza e della corruzione che attanaglia il paese, e che, rubando ai ricchi per dare ai poveri, ottengono sempre più il favore da parte del popolo dei suoi sudditi. Si sospetta che Mei, una danzatrice cieca, da poco giunta in una casa di piacere detta Padiglione delle Peonie e straordinariamente esperta nelle arti marziali, possa essere la figlia scomparsa del capo di tale setta; costei viene quindi arrestata ed imprigionata dai soldati dell'imperatore.

The Petrified Forest: A Picture Poem /

This is a picture of the petrified forest: a journey through the sights and moods of a land full of wonder. It is a new concept, its creators purposefully veering far from the traditional narrative travelogue, wishing instead to give the viewer a moving and emotional experience. The deep feelings evoked by the petrified forest are revealed in the artful blending of soul-moving music and stunning images. It captures scenes virtually inaccessible to most visitors: sunrises, sunsets and moonrises when the park is not open; virgin snow after a winter storm when park officials closed the road and turned back travelers. Here, the viewer can also experience the changing of seasons, rarely seen wildlife, and the unusual sight of a river flowing through these desert highlands. This picture poem allows an understanding of the petrified forest that comes from the heart and soul, as well as the mind. Music by Deuter.

Fools and Dreamers: Regenerating a Native Forest / 2019

The incredible story of how degraded gorse-infested farmland has been regenerated back into beautiful New Zealand native forest over the course of 30 years. Fools & Dreamers: Regenerating a Native Forest is a 30-minute documentary about Hinewai Nature Reserve, on New Zealand’s Banks Peninsula, and its kaitiaki/manager of 30 years, botanist Hugh Wilson. When, in 1987, Hugh let the local community know of his plans to allow the introduced ‘weed’ gorse to grow as a nurse canopy to regenerate farmland into native forest, people were not only skeptical but outright angry – the plan was the sort to be expected only of “fools and dreamers”. Now considered a hero locally and across the country, Hugh oversees 1500 hectares resplendent in native forest, where birds and other wildlife are abundant and 47 known waterfalls are in permanent flow. He has proven without a doubt that nature knows best – and that he is no fool.
