È nobile l'assunto ideologico, grossi sono i nomi che troviamo fra gli interpreti, ma la sceneggiatura è pesantemente vincolata a banali luoghi comuni, fino a punte di involontario grottesco. Nemmeno Preminger, che pure è un gran regista, riesce a salvare l'operazione.
