Narrated by the original music of the filmmakers, it’s a chronicle of the mundane, laced (as it is in everyday life) with the miraculous. The soundtrack was written and composed by Award Winning Songwriter Billy Yeager. The wonderful thing about this creative product of the combined wills and imaginations of Anais and Billy Yeager is how profoundly it succeeds in quietly crystalizing an alternative reality in the here and now.Their language of innocent play underpinned with a dystopian despair - a sustained dialogue between the sensual pleasures of simple existence and the sense of aimlessness and utter loss that naturally grow out of what George Gurdjieff called “the terror of our situation” - evokes a mood of homelessness tinged with a sweet optimism reminiscent of the 1960s. This is creating nostalgia in the present, bringing a feeling of remembering to the moment, making something out of nothing. And such, these two make me realize, is life. Drew Kampion

Damien John Kelly House, catering to men in recovery, opened to significant opposition in 2019. Within a short space of time, the abstinence-based recovery living centre had changed the hearts and minds of the local community. Its residents channel their recovery through activity, from team sports to photography, writing, filmmaking and other artistic pursuits. Among them is Sam. A short film about his issues with addiction is the entry point for this portrait of the centre and those who have benefited from it. It highlights how recovery is most effectively achieved through engagement and community interaction.

One Day / 2024

One Day is an experimental video created from a single image. The photograph used is the first ever taken by artist Rojin Shafiei with her film camera in Toronto. The film was developed six years later, after the artist had decided to make Toronto her permanent home following periods of living in Iran, Montreal and Europe. Moving to Toronto with her family in 2009 and accepting it as a second home presented a significant challenge. Rojin continues to be reminded of her immigrant status whenever she thinks of Toronto.

One Summer's Day / 1999

Veteran filmmaker Nobuhiko Obayashi rounds out the second of his two trilogies about his hometown of Onomichi with this film about the budding relationship between a young lad and an eccentric old man. Fifth-grader Yuta (Takuro Atsugi) is a typical city child looking forward to a summer of reading comic books and playing video games. Instead, he is bundled off to his grandparent's house on the Inland Sea. His grandfather, Yuta's parents explain, has been acting strangely as of late -- he eats the offerings in the family altar and once tried to lead attendants at a funeral in a rousing round of calisthenics. Since his mother and father are swamped with work, and his elder sister (Nana Sano) is studying for college entrance exams, Yuta has been asked to look after Grandpa. The old man takes Yuta on a tour of Onomichi, regaling him with 70 years of its history. Along the way, Grandpa slips in and out of the past, increasingly unable to discern between the two.
