È in cura da un riluttante psicanalista (Arkin) e quando la sua segretaria (Joan Cusack) gli passa l'invito di andare a Grosse Pointe per la riunione decennale dei suoi compagni di liceo, accetta. In quella cittadina, tra l'altro, ha un lavoretto da fare. Lì la sua crisi si aggrava nel conflitto tra passato e presente. "È una riflessione non troppo seria sul sistema di valori americano" (John Cusack, anche coproduttore e cosceneggiatore). Intelligente, però. Nonostante il versante pulp alla Tarantino (il dialogo tra Cusack e Aykroyd con le pistole sotto il tavolo), è una black comedy più seria di quel che appare: attraverso la parodia dei generi traspare la satira. Lo sguardo del regista è quello del cinema degli anni '70, la colonna sonora è degli anni '80 (Clash, Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Siouxsie and the Banshees). Armitage è un regista da rivalutare.
