Due anni dopo, un incidente causato da una nave terrestre provoca rivolte tra i coloni di Zeon, sempre più insofferenti al governo federale. Cogliendo l'occasione, Char convince Garma a guidare i compagni cadetti in un'incursione contro la guarnigione federale di istanza a Zeon, soverchiando i militari e costringendoli alla resa. Nel frattempo le scoperte del professor Torenov Y. Minovsky imprimono un svolta al progetto per la realizzazione dei mobile suit.
