Sofie's Utopia / 2023

Education specialist Sofie is starting a class to offer gifted children education at their own level. But will Sofie be able to overcome the resistance to her way of working? Explora, a special class for gifted children, was started in Breda, set up by Sofie on behalf of two schools. She is a specialist in giftedness in children and notices that this group is often not recognized, even though they have the same problems as children who cannot cope with the educational level, such as dropout, boredom and depression.

Marinaleda The land of utopia / 2013

Marinaleda, a community of 2645 inhabitants in Andalusia, has no unemployment, no policemen, housing, work, culture, education and health are considered a right. "The land belongs to no one, the land is not bought, the land belongs to everyone! We practice a participatory democracy, we decide everything from taxes to public spending in big assemblies. Many heads give many ideas". The residents belong to the local cooperative and work 6.5 hours a day, all receiving the same daily wage (45 euros), regardless of whether they are employed in the fields or in the local factory processing the products. Revenues are not shared but invested in the cooperative to create new jobs. There is no priest or policeman in the village, while renting a house costs 15 euros a month.

Utopia / 2008

A story of a special commune in Jilin Province, China. This commune is for physically or mentally challenged people, born in their condition due to the polluted water source. Presenting their births, deaths, loves and hates like any other people’s lives, director Yiren Wang pays respects to them. Also, it penetrates into a big political irony that the communist utopia of Mao Zedong can be materialised only through the lives of an excluded minority.
