Zambezi / 2012

Africa's wildest river is home to the most spectacular wildlife. Hippos fight for territory while herds of elephant, water buffalo and zebra depend on it for life. In the wet season the rains burst the riverbanks and everyone, including people, must move whilst fish swim through the villages. In the dry season the creatures fight over the few pools of water while predators prowl. At its heart it plunges over Victoria Falls and into wild ravines before draining into the Indian Ocean, where storm clouds cycle the water back into the heart of Africa.

Sul bordo di una cascata, immersa nel tronco di un enorme albero di baobab si trova una vivace città di uccelli chiamati Zambezia. Famosa per essere la città più sicura in tutta l'Africa, Zambezia è diventata l'area protetta della valle del fiume, dove uccelli d'ogni piuma vivono insieme in armonia e in pace. Kai (un giovane Falcon) vive invece nel deserto insieme al padre che non vuole che lui raggiunga Zambezia per cercare di entrare a far parte del corpo dei coraggiosi Hurricane. C'è un avvenimento del passato che è all'origine di questo divieto e il giovane Kai ne scoprirà la consistenza proprio infrangendolo.

200km from the southern-most point of Africa, where the water is chilly and harsh, runs the Breede River. Recently, reports have been made of a massive creature living in the river. Fish are being taken off fishermen's lines - but with a curious and sickening twist. Only the bodies are taken: the heads are being left intact. The picture that sends aquatic ecologist Andy Coetzee off on the quest shows the head of a large kob that has clearly had its body ripped off by something even larger. With shark hunter and expert fisherman Hennie Papenfuss at his side, Andy sets out to discover the truth behind the tales and exactly what the monster could be. Following the science and the rumours, this dramatic aquatic adventure joins Andy on a journey that follows the coast line of South Africa from north to south, and the sharks who are in turn following the fish.
