It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other. Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their '70s prime, in the era of their Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs--a rare opportunity for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk.

I grandi Return to Forever, storica formazione jazz-fusion degli anni ’70, solcano di nuovo i mari perigliosi ma affascinanti della grande musica, dopo la non esaltante reunion del 2008 con Al Di Meola ancora in lista. Questa volta dal vivo, con la registrazione del live-tour del 2011, sulla base dei brani più classici del sodalizio, e con una nuova, strepitosa line-up: oltre al leggendario Chick Corea, vi sono, infatti, il fido Lenny White alla batteria, il pirotecnico Frank Gambale alla chitarra, il prodigioso Jean-Luc Ponty al violino, il potente e stregonesco Stanley Clarke al basso. Operazione mirabolante, riproducente squarci dei concerti, che effigia con un potente affresco sonoro la classe immutata e intramontabile dei musicisti suddetti, rinverdente i fasti, seppur con diversa configurazione del personnel, del periodo 1972-1977, quello di dischi quali “Return To Forever”, “Hymn Of Seventh Galaxy”, “Romantic Warrior”.

George Clinton: The Mothership Connection is the title of a DVD released in 1998 and then reissued in 2001, featuring George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. The DVD features a concert performed by Parliament-Funkadelic at the The Summit in Houston, Texas on October 31, 1976. The DVD documents the beginning of famed P-Funk Earth Tour, which would run for almost two years.
