America, anni ’30. Sono gli anni della Grande depressione. Chris Howard, nonostante sia il maggior venditore di auto del Paese, ha perso ogni gioia di vivere dopo la morte del figlio in un incidente stradale. Tom Smith, ultimo cowboy in un mondo che è cambiato, non riesce ad adattarsi alla modernità.
