Nel mondo del rally, il 1983 è l’anno in cui si fece la storia, l’anno di Davide contro Golia, quello in cui lo sfavorito team Lancia, guidato dal carismatico Cesare Fiorio, affronta il potente team Audi in una delle più grandi rivalità della storia dello sport. Nel Campionato del mondo, contro il formidabile rivale Roland Gumpert e il suo team Audi, tecnologicamente superiore e composto da figure come il campione finlandese, Hannu Mikkola, Lancia e il suo team manager, Cesare Fiorio, rischiano una sconfitta certa. Ma con cuore, passione e capacità da fuoriclasse, Fiorio riesce a mettere insieme una squadra insolita, convincendo anche il campione Walter Röhrl a guidare per la Lancia. Utilizzando tutti i trucchi a sua disposizione e piegando le regole, Fiorio si addentra in territori pericolosi, dentro e fuori la pista, per una vittoria che sembra essere impossibile.
