Harlem, fine anni '80. Ace è un giovane ed onesto commesso di una lavanderia, ma riesce a fatica a tirare avanti con il modesto salario che guadagna ogni mese. Mitch, il suo migliore amico, che gira per il quartiere su macchine sportive grazie ai soldi fatti con lo spaccio di crack, viene arrestato; Ace è allora contattato da Lulu, un importante distributore di droga, che lo instrada nel crimine, facendolo diventare ricco e potente in poco tempo. Ma non tutto fila liscio: gli amici di Ace cominciano a morire di overdose, e per di più Mitch, una volta uscito dal carcere, ingaggia una lotta senza quartiere per riprendersi quel che Ace gli ha tolto. Crudo spaccato della vita ad Harlem nel momento di maggior diffusione del crack e di maggior degrado urbano e civile, ma senza mordente e con personaggi tagliati con l'accetta fino a farli sembrare dei fumetti.
