Nella notte dei tempi, il leggendario Minotauro, nato dall’incrocio tra una regina e un toro (ognuno ha i suoi gusti), esige periodici sacrifici umani. Nel piccolo villaggio che deve sacrificare i suoi giovani al mostro, Theo (Tom Hardy), figlio del capo Cyrnan (Rutger Hauer), è turbato e non ci sta. Una vecchia gli dice che i sacrificati, compresa la sua fidanzata, non sono morti, ma vivono in realtà nel labirinto assieme al Minotauro. Theo decide quindi di compiere l’impresa di uccidere il Minotauro e salvare i prigionieri. Quando arrivano i guerrieri per prelevare le vittime sacrificali, Cyrnan si oppone, ma quelli scatenano un massacro e si prendono ugualmente i giovani. Theo si imbarca non visto sulla nave, pronto a dare battaglia.

In this short animation, the archetypal hero takes a journey through seven stages: birth, childhood, mission, labyrinth, monster, battle and death/rebirth. Through purely abstract, moving images, the corresponding emotional states are conveyed: calm, love, joy, surprise, fear, anger/hate, and death/rebirth leading again to calm. The cycles continue until the stars burn out and there is nothing left. Minotaur was created stereoscopically in IMAX® Sandde (Stereoscopic ANimation Drawing Device) , the world's first freehand stereoscopic 3D animation software.

A loose interpretation of the Minoan myth, as seen through the monster's point of view. Abandoned in a labyrinthine island, the childlike minotaur has as his only companion a playful red ball and a multitude of mirrors. When he sees his own image he imagines himself dancing in perfect synchronicity with a mysterious other. But new characters are brought to the island, and they don't behave like his choreographed twins. Confused and frustrated, the creature has to learn to adapt to a world of uncertainty. But when he can't, the monster's true nature is revealed. Most of the character animation was originally hand-drawn on a light table, cut out and mounted on rigid cardboard. This was done so that each replacement could stand up vertically within a three-dimensional set. The set was then lit with fibre-optic lights and shot in stop-motion, using a 16mm Bolex camera. Some of the animation was done as hinged cut-out puppets on glass, using a multi-plane rig.

Hercules nel labirinto del Minotauro (Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur) è un film televisivo del 1994 diretto da Josh Becker, con Kevin Sorbo, Anthony Quinn, Tawny Kitaen e Michael Hurst. Hercules ha passato la sua vita ad aiutare le persone e vorrebbe rinunciare definitivamente a qualsiasi richiesta d'aiuto e dedicare più tempo alla sua famiglia. Ma quando un villaggio è minacciato da un Minotauro, Hercules è chiamato a salvare il paese dal suddetto. Inizialmente riluttante, decide poi di accettare e si reca sul posto insieme al suo amico Iolao, dove scoprirà una triste realtà.

Da un famoso racconto del grande scrittore argentino Jorge L. Borges una libera interpretazione del classico mito: il Labirinto e il suo solitario abitatore. Il Minotauro immortale inventa il mondo in attesa di venire liberato dal suo uccisore, Teseo. F.C. la sua voce recita il breve racconto. Fa parte, insieme a Insaziabilità e Shanfara, di quei cortometraggi che Bròcani girò nella galleria d’arte GAP del compagno Fileccia. Con in dosso la maschera di King Kong, utilizzata in Necropolis, e il cappotto del set di Trapianto, consunzione e morte di Franco Brocani, che Schifano gli aveva donato come compenso per la sua interpretazione, Bròcani gira fra i corridoi dello spazio espositivo svolgendo un gomitolo di filo. Scene di questo cortometraggio andranno a formare i film Voci da un pianeta in estinzione e Schifanosaurus rex. (Lucca film festival).
