Una tempesta di meteoriti si abbatte a più riprese sulla città di San Francisco. Michelle è un’astronoma che ha studiato il fenomeno e viene quindi prelevata dall’esercito perché offra la sua consulenza per ridurre i danni. Intanto però i suoi due figli sono in pericolo e di soccorrerli si preoccupa il suo ex marito Tom, colonnello della Protezione Civile, ma l’impresa non è semplice perché, nel frattempo, deve anche tentare di coordinare l’evacuazione della città.
