Presented at the Short Film 13 Week Community of Madrid, this experimental animated short tells the moving story of a boy who saves a sandpiper with a broken wing from some vicious seagulls. After caring for the wounded bird, he returns it to its habitat.

Omar è un giovane pakistano a cui lo zio affida la gestione di una lavanderia abbandonata nella periferia londinese. Omar la rimette in sesto aiutato da Johnny (Daniel Day Lewis), un giovane sbandato a cui lo lega una relazione omosessuale. Integrazione razziale, omosessualità, traffico di droga: argomenti scottanti che Frears affronta con approccio realistico, quasi documentario, ma anche con un senso dello humour capace di ammorbidire il quadro davvero desolato della società inglese che ne esce. Realizzato a 16 mm per la Tv, è uno dei migliori risultati del cinema inglese anni Ottanta.

Les Lavandières du Portugal / 1957

Two French advertising agencies vying for a contract with a manufacturer of washers. The manager decides to hire the agency submitting the best advertising campaign. Jean Francois, head of the A.P.N., has the great idea of looking for an authentic Portuguese washerwoman to present the ads. But competition, the O.P.I., led by the attractive Catherine, on a trip to Portugal, check the washer ideal. It is a shy girl who is happy with life in Portugal and refuses to accept the proposals of Catherine. And here intervenes Jean François, who pretends to fall for her to take her to Paris ..
