La Bohème / 1926
It is 1830 in Paris and the rent is due, but the money is not there. An article here, a painting there and a monkey with a cup gives them enough money for the rent, but not for food. Fortunately, Musette from downstairs has enough food for everyone including Mimi - the poor little waif from next door who Rodolphe has met. But Count Paul also has his lusting eye on Mimi and uses her embroidery to get close to her. Rodolphe and Mimi fall in love and Mimi works endlessly to support Rodolphe who is writing his play with a new found passion. He does not know that he has been discharged from writing for 'Dog and Cat Fanciers'. Mimi wants to get his play produced and Count Paul offers to help, but there is a terrible fight when Rodolphe thinks that Mimi is faithless to him with Count Paul. After the fight, he seeks out a doctor as she is sick, but she has left when Rodolphe returns and will stay away until his play is finished.

Sono almeno una diecina, tra muti e sonori, i film ispirati al romanzo (1847-49) di Henri Murger che nel 1896 fu messo in musica (La Bohème) da G. Puccini su libretto di Illica e Giacosa. Il film del finnico A. Kaurismäki è ambientato in una Parigi dei giorni nostri quasi astratta; i personaggi sono artisti e poveri, ma tra i quaranta e i cinquanta anni, spesso immigrati; invece di Puccini, musica di Mozart, valzerini francesi, voci di Moulodji e S. Reggiani e una triste canzone giapponese per la morte di Mimì. I fatti sono press'a poco gli stessi, ma privi di aura romantica, raffreddati da una recitazione atonale e da un umorismo impassibile. Citazioni a iosa e 2 comparse speciali: i registi Louis Malle e Samuel Fuller. Impregnato di un'allegria da naufraghi che non esclude né dignità né tenerezza.

L'opera immortale di Giacomo Puccini, in una versione cinematografica ad alto budget diretta dal candidato all'Oscar Robert Dornhelm, ha come protagonisti la "Coppia d'oro" dell'opera, Rolando Villazon e Anna Netrebko, Rodolfo e Mimi. La chimica tra loro è elettrica, senza rivali nel teatro di oggi. Il soprano russo Anna Netrebko non è solo bella ma ha una voce e una tecnica meravigliose; Il tenore messicano Rolando Villazon, ha una voce meravigliosa e un carisma incredibile. Il regista non solo ha voluto rimanere fermamente fedele al progetto di Puccini, ma ha anche voluto documentare due dei principali cantanti dell'età moderna, piuttosto che imbarcarsi in una ricreazione contemporanea "alla moda".

In the 50's, in Paris, the neighbors Rodolfo and Mimi meet each other when Mimi's candle blows out in a cold and dark night. They immediately fall in love for each other, in times of financial difficulties in the post-war. Rodolfo introduces Mimi to his close friends Marcello and his beloved Musetta; Colline; and Schaunard and together they have a good-time in Café Momus. Some time later, Mimi tells Marcello that she can not support the jealousy of Rodolfo any longer and when Marcello discuss with Rodolfo, Mimi overhears the real reason for the behavior of her beloved Rodolfo.

The Opéra Royal de Wallonie presents Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème. Stage director Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera's production features a talented cast led by Patrizia Ciofi as Mimi and Gianluca Terranova as Rodolfo. Considered by some to be Puccini's best score, La Bohème is one of his best-known works. Premiered at Turin's Teatro Regio in 1896, the opera draws its plot from Henri Murger's Scènes de la vie de bohème. The story is set in Paris' Latin Quarter, where comedy and tragedy live side by side, and its main characters live on a heady mixture of love, dreams, and disillusionment.

Part of a series of opera shorts by different directors. Herzog combines O Soave Fanciulla ("Oh you vision of beauty" from Puccini's La Boheme) with images of harsh life in Africa.
