Spinetta. Discos esenciales: Kamikaze / 2022

The concert is part of the cycle Luis Alberto Spinetta: Essential Discs, dedicated to revisiting his productions that left a mark on the collective memory. 40 years after the original recording, a fundamental album by Spinetta, Kamikaze, is recreated with Lucio Mantel conducting, arranging, guitar and vocals, Nicolás Rainone on double bass, electric bass, guqin and vocals, Alejandro Franov on piano, keyboards, tabla and sitar and Martín Lambert on drums and octapad. As guests, Juana Aguirre, Candelaria Zamar, Raúl Orozco and Fernando Barrientos participate in voices and the Divergent Quartet, with Alejandro Terán in arrangements and direction for string quartet, Javier Casalla in violin, Julio Domínguez in violin and Jacqueline Oroc in violoncello.

Nella Parigi devastata da una catastrofe nucleare e in mano a bande di disperati violenti, un uomo si aggira, solo, sconfigge un cattivo, non riesce a salvare l'unica donna rimasta, riparte. Molta azione, ma una vicenda ridotta all'osso in questo esordio del 23enne Besson. Più che una metafora, è un esercizio di stile ma, in questo suo limite, c'è una forza narrativa ammirevole e la capacità di renderla per immagini, arricchendola di piccole invenzioni, di notazioni incisive, di sapienti ellissi, di materiale plastico. Pochi personaggi, non una parola di dialogo, suggestiva colonna musicale di Eric Serra.

For Those We Love / 2007

Nel 1943, mentre lo sforzo giapponese della Seconda Guerra Mondiale vacilla, un vice ammiraglio propone di addestrare squadroni di aviatori "volontari" per far schiantare i loro aerei armati contro le navi da guerra alleate. Yarn segue le vite dei piloti kamikaze, ricordate da un anziano ristoratore di Kyushu che ne conserva la memoria. Onorare i morti e molteplici inni militari può smuovere l'anima di alcuni giapponesi, ma altrove gli aud faranno un viaggio di sola andata per le uscite. Le scene di battaglia sono ben eseguite e la sceneggiatura offre alcune scene memorabili, ma nel complesso una guida competente e l'interpretazione sono impotenti sulla narrazione ripetitiva dello scrittore e governatore di Tokyo Shintaro Ishiara. Un post scriptum del dopoguerra aggiunge una lunghezza considerevole a una narrativa già troppo estesa. I crediti tecnici sono di buona qualità.

The Screaming Tiger / 1973

Rare was the film in 1973 that incorporated the star's name in the title. One of the few such films was Screaming Ninja, aka Wang Yu, King of Boxing. The story is set in China in the early 1900x. Essentially playing an extension of himself, action-star Wang-Yu spends much of the time defending himself against evil martial-arts masters. He also tries to make sense of a tragic incident in his past.

As a result of a misdiagnosis, Detective Burt Simpson is told he has just weeks to live. He gains a new respect for his life and loved ones but learns that in order for his wife, Carolyn, and son, Dougie, to collect any insurance money, he must be killed in the line of duty. He then becomes the most reckless man on the police force, volunteering for dangerous assignments over the objections of his by-the-book partner.

Attraverso le vicende di due ufficiali di marina, il film illustra le operazioni navali giapponesi durante la seconda guerra mondiale, dall'attacco di Pearl Harbor (7 dicembre 1941) alla decisiva battaglia delle Midway. La vicenda si incentra su Natsuki, l'aviatore dell'ammiraglio Isoroku Yamaguchi, il comandante della Task Force incaricata dell'attacco fatale. Dopo il bombardamento, Natsuki ritorna in Giappone dove lo attende la sua fidanzata. Ma la guerra nel Pacifico continua, e Natsuki inizia a dubitare dell'invincibilità della flotta giapponese.

Attack Squadron / 1963

Lt. Col. Senda resists the idea of sending Japanese fighter pilots on suicide missions. He believes that what is really necessary for Japan to regain momentum in the war is for the air force to gather its most brilliant pilots into an elite squadron and use the unit to pinpoint attacks on the Americans. Disrespected by the kamikaze pilots who think the "non-suicidal" pilots are afraid, the unit redeems itself by stunning victories. But success leads the military leaders to expect too much of the unit, and new orders portend disaster.

Zero / 1984

Two young men are recruited into the Japanese air force just before outbreak of WW2 by the test pilot of Japans new super fighter - the Zero. The movie is told in reverse from the point of one of the young men who don't qualify for the pilot training and instead joins the ground crew. It chronicles the entire history of the famous fighter from the first prototype test flights all through the war.
