What does it mean to make an animated film accessible to people with impaired vision? Can audio description convey what’s happening on the screen and what is, especially in animated film, often entirely a product of the imagination? Anne Isensee (Golden Dove for “Megatrick” in 2017) tackles these complex questions with a light touch, humour and verbal wit. She pulls off the feat of producing a concentrated cinematic investigation into the multi-layered quality of (all) perception.

Andrej lives in a small industrial coastal town. The only escape from his bleak everyday reality is his affection for his friend Ana, which he is unable to express. His situation suddenly changes as various events lead him to a misfortune final encounter with her. The movie is set in the nineties, and through Andrejs story, it pays homage to a lost generation of children and youth growing up during the violent breakup of Yugoslavia.

Young-ho goes to see his father who is tending to a famous patient. He surprises his girlfriend, Ju-won, in Berlin where she is studying fashion design. He goes to a seaside hotel to meet his mother and brings his friend Jeong-soo with him. In each instance, he anticipates an important conversation. But sometimes a shared look, or a shared smoke, can mean as much as anything we could say to those close to us.

La vita lavorativa di Ogata presenta diversi problemi, sia con la giustizia, in quanto commerciante di riviste pornografiche, sia con la yakuza, interessata alla barberia della sua compagna Haru, già vedova del suo precedente marito. La vita familiare è ugualmente complicata, a causa della malattia di Haru e del pessimo rapporto che lui ha con i figli di lei Keiko e Koichi. Il giorno in cui Ogata scopre di provare attrazione per la figliastra quindicenne Keiko, la già precaria situazione familiare subisce un duro colpo; Haru viene ricoverata in gravi condizioni all'ospedale per poi morire in preda alla follia, Koichi diviene uno sbandato, Keiko entra in una gang e si fidanza con il boss. Lo stesso Ogata viene arrestato e successivamente perde tutti i soldi investiti nella pornografia. Nonostante gli eventi, Ogata troverà il modo di ripartire, buttandosi a capofitto nel progetto di una bambola gonfiabile.
