Al suo esordio hollywoodiano il britannico Figgis, che pur non manca di mestiere, si adegua alla volgarità intellettuale e fisica di un copione affidato a un aspro cocktail di violenza ed erotismo, lasciando perdere gli spunti che avrebbero permesso di approfondire i personaggi. Gere esibisce il proprio sessappiglio come una nave inalbera la bandiera di combattimento.
