Human Cargo is a 2004 Canadian television miniseries. The series won seven Gemini Awards and two Directors Guild of Canada Awards. It premiered on CBC Television on January 4, 2004 and starred Kate Nelligan, Cara Pifko, and Nicholas Campbell. The series was written by Linda Svendsen and Brian McKeown.

Bonnie Brewster and "Packy" Campbell, rival reporters on competing newspapers, team up to put an end to a smuggling gang that brings illegal aliens to the United States, and then makes further victims of them by extortion payments. They go to Vancouver, Canada and board a ship carrying aliens. But the gang recognizes them as reporters and gang-henchmen Tony Scula (Ralf Harolde) and Ira Conklin take them off the ship. But Campbell recognizes Scula as the gunman who killed Carmen Zoro.

L'8 agosto 1991 una nave albanese carica di 20000 persone raggiunse il porto di Bari. La nave si chiamava "Vlora". L'attracco fu difficile e alcuni passeggeri si tuffarono in mare per nuotare fino a terra, mentre molti altri cantarono "Italia, Italia", esultando. Il 7 Agosto 1991, la nave, di ritorno da Cuba, era arrivata al porto di Durazzo con un carico di 10000 tonnellate di zucchero. Mentre stavano sbarcando lo zucchero, una folla enorme di migliaia di persone assaltò la nave obbligando il capitano a dirigersi verso l'Italia. La mattina seguente, di fronte alla "Vlora" c'era una città incredula e attonita e uno stadio vuoto dove gli Albanesi furono confinati prima di essere rispediti a casa. Sono passati 21 anni da quel giorno. Molti degli uomini che si imbarcarono su quella nave furono rimandati in Albania, ma le traversate continuarono e molti ritentarono.
