Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand, 1979. During a fortnight with his world-weary father, Angus is drawn to the underground post-punk music scene. With the support of his friend Kirsten, Angus navigates self doubt, derision and a family tragedy to take the stage for the first time.

The picture shows Martin Johnson arriving at the island, his reception by the fearsome savages, how he accompanies them inland to one of their villages, and the strange rites and ceremonies that he was permitted to witness, always in danger, and yet never afraid. The picture has several outstanding incidents. The native dances are weird, but nothing compares to the shots that show the natives proudly displaying their trophies of human heads. The monkey men fascinate because they show how closely the lower forms of civilization resemble the apes. Also there are scenes taken among the pigmies, beautiful scenery, shark fishing and excellent views of a volcano in eruption.

Brenda, Ellen e Sue, tre turiste americane in "gita di piacere" ad Haiti sul finire degli anni '70. Approdate a quella spiaggia da un passato confessato in prima persona alla macchina da presa, per quel passato cercano conforto tra le braccia di quello che oggi viene definito jinetero (il cavalcatore), una sorta di gigolo dei carabi. Una consolazione effimera, la loro, comprata da chi ha "fame" di venderla. Il sud di Brenda ed Ellen è incarnato da Legba, un giovane uomo color ebano che guadagna "cibo e sicurezza" smerciando "desiderio e amore". Legba è capace e ha stile e i suoi guadagni gli permettono di mantenere se stesso e la vecchia madre. Entrambe invaghite fino a pensare di condurlo via con loro, le donne arriveranno a un feroce scontro finale incapaci di riconoscere la vacuità del loro sogno sessuale.

Between the city and the countryside and the modern world versus the old, a girl is at her happiest when she is in nature. Her parents are divorced, and in a modern world there is a need for money. This means a trip to the big city on the back of her mother’s scooter. Once in the big smoke, the girl must visit with her father and his new girlfriend in order to pick up the all-important alimony.
