“Cómicos” is a sentimental road movie in which we have accompanied the veteran Benavente Company on their tour of Spain. It is the last touring repertory theatre company left in Spain, whose patriarchs, Luis and Aurora, are approaching 80 years old. At the same time, on this emotional journey, we are introduced to the supporting actors, such as Manuel Andrés oandAmparo Pacheco - also octogenarians - who live their profession with dignity and unwavering enthusiasm. In “Cómicos” the names of our protagonists do not appear on illuminated signs but they shine with their own light in a film that talks about passion, the passage of time and the thin line that separates triumph and failure.

Rick (Dean Martin), pittore in cerca di fortuna, convive assieme a Eugene (Jerry Lewis), aspirante scrittore di libri per infanzia e assiduo lettore di fumetti dell'orrore che gli procurano rumorosi incubi notturni. Una sera incontrano due loro vicine di casa, una delle quali assomiglia all'eroina di uno dei fumetti preferiti da Eugene, la sexy "Donna Vampiro" (Bat Lady nell'originale). Le due vicine si rivelano essere proprio le disegnatrici del fumetto preferito da Lewis e la modella presa come riferimento per la creazione del personaggio. Abigail Parker (Dorothy Malone) lavora infatti per le edizioni Murdoch e Bessie Sparrowbush (Shirley MacLaine), che è la segretaria del signor Murdock editore del fumetto, si prende una cotta per Eugene, che inizialmente la respinge non sapendo che in realtà è "Bat Lady".

Coppia di alieni finisce sulla Terra per un guasto meccanico. Si ambientano bene e fanno una figlia che poi si innamora di un terrestre: guai con l'ufficio immigrazione. Interpretata dal bravo e simpatico D. Aykroyd, anche cosceneggiatore, è una satira politica in veste fantascientifica che punta più sulla quantità che non sulla qualità delle gag e delle idee. Poche sono azzeccate.
