Группа неудачливых артистов собирается вокруг одного человека, одержимого идеей создания нового театра. Бригада артистов едет в поездку по городам с антрепризой. В бригаде нет известных артистов, и поэтому бригадиру приходится немало потрудиться, чтобы собрать зал. В ход идет все: объявления в афише с последующим заявлением, что звезда не приехала в последний момент, готовность, в зависимости от обстоятельств и вкуса местной публики играть спектакль в любом жанре - от трагедии, до фарса, включая ужастик, детектив и т.д.

The story also can be read as an ambiguous metaphor, where artistic problems of cultural activities and hard economic conditions meet.

Il tentativo di riformare lo spettacolo circense ereditato dal padre, porta la trapezista Peickert ad adottare nuovi metodi. Ma i cambiamenti si scontrano con la realtà, con gli antichi ideali della stessa, sino a attentare a quel che del circo Peickert amava. Così sospende l'inaugurazione del suo progetto e viene assunta in televisione. Scopre che per cambiare il sistema servono piccoli e concreti passi.
