Toto - Baloise Sessions / 2015
Created in 1977, the legendary group broke up in 2008 after twelve studio albums. This year, the musicians released their first studio album in 9 years, titled Toto XIV. However, the group had already resumed touring for a few years. The albums Toto and Toto IV, and the single Rosanna won six Grammy Awards. In 1982, the group’s flagship year, Rosanna came second in the US charts and Africa even took first place. Their hits continue to air regularly on the radio and are still popular with the public. Guitarist and singer Steve Lukather is the only Toto member present since the band's inception. He is surrounded by 13 permanent musicians and 31 others recruited specifically for the tours. During the 2015 edition of Baloise, Toto, at his best, performed classics such as Hold The Line, Rosanna or Africa, but also extracts from his new album.
Totò e Vicé /
Adapted from Franco Scaldati's play, the movie transposes the story of Totò and Vicé from the theatrical representations to urban scenes. Totò and Vicé are timeless creatures, bewildered and misplaced, that roam about Palermo, marooned and empty; an urban journey and waking life between memories and dreams in one magic night. Out from a timeless cave, their story of sanctification crosses the suburbs, reaches the city and it's bowels, showing the real settings of Scaldati's writing and cosmogony.
Jumbo/Toto, Stories of an Elephant / 2016
From Germany to Italy, the United States to Île-de-France, Jumbo/Toto, Stories About an Elephant shadows the itinerary of a single forgotten animal, an African elephant doubly-named Jumbo/Toto. Jumbo, as he was called on German colonial ships,at the Amerikakai port of Hamburg, and in Carl Hagenbeck's zoos; Toto, as he'd come to be known with great fame in fascist Italy. An urban investigation and an adventure film, a ballet of flora and fauna and pavement and sea, Jumbo/Toto, Stories About an Elephant is a modern epic of the joy and pain of the 20th century set in what still remains strange and unknown: the 21st century, and the solitude of telling a story.
Un principe chiamato Totò / 2007
Totò, the mythical comedian of Italian stage and screen, was the illegitimate child of a noble man in one of Naples's poorest neighborhoods. As a child, he enlisted in the army simply to eat three square meals a day. Later, his dizzying success in show business brought him riches he had never dreamed of, plus stories of love and jealousy, the most important being with 16 year old Diana who eventually became his wife, only to leave him and inspire the Italian classic torch song Malafemmina, meaning bad woman.
