It’s the hottest day of the year and Jerusalem is being devoured by a scorching heatwave! In the city center, three flatmates live in blissful ignorance under the cool caress of their air conditioner. But when the AC breaks down, one person must venture outside to find a new battery, and discover HOW TO SURVIVE THE HEATWAVE AND STAY HUMAN.
We Will Survive TV / 2020
During the corona-related shutdown in November 2020, Hito Steyerl’s exhibition I Will Survive at K21 (September 26, 2020—January 10, 2021) transforms into a livestream format. The project “4 Nights at the Museum,” developed by the artist, filmmaker, and author Hito Steyerl, provides some background and conversations about the works in the exhibition. In four episodes (each lasting ca. 45 minutes), selected works and themes in I Will Survive will be discussed in more detail. Participants in the works, such as the New York-based graphic designer Ayham Ghraowi or the Hamburg-based actress Heja Netirk, will talk about their perspectives. In addition, Steyerl will present alternative versions of exhibited works and previously unedited archival material. Short guided tours by the curators will accompany visitors into the exhibition spaces, which are abandoned at night. They will take a look at some of the works and prove that there is nothing going on inside the museum during the shutdown.

At the elderly home, seniors of all sexual orientations are welcomed to express their sexuality during the last days of their lives. The short documentary WE WILL SURVIVE observes the funny, heart-warming and at times delicate everyday life at Julie Roger Home.

'You Will Survive Doomsday' is a portrait of Bruce that explores his unconventional journey and the reasons behind it.

The speech by Stokely Carmichael was given at the occasion of the merger between the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California, February 1968. The merger took place on the birthday of Huey P. Newton, Minister of Defense of the Black Panther Party, who was jailed for allegedly having killed a policeman. The speech ends with the famous: "Huey Newton will be set free, or else ...."

This is an elegy to the women whose lives were taken at three Atlanta spas this past spring, targeted by the shooter to relieve his sex addiction. ‘R&R’ is military slang for ‘rest and recuperation’, as using the body of a woman to combat the trauma of battle. War shaped the body of my mother, and her features in mine, continue to incite jokes about sexual violence. The connection between immigration and the countries whose infrastructures, economies and environments were ruined by US presence remains unseen. My family survived by hiding these atrocities from the children they raised in the US, genuinely wanting to protect us from the past. But keeping them hidden lets the violence survive too.

This film was shot in Cuba in 1994. The opportunity came when Russel Porter, an Australian documentary filmmaker, was invited to teach at the international film and television school (EICTV) located some forty kilometers from Havana. He took the opportunity to make a film about life in Cuba today. He examines how people are surviving the hardships caused initially by the "blockade" imposed by the USA over 30 years ago and increased by the more recent loss of trade with the countries of Eastern Europe. The goal was to faithfully and objectively portray the current atmosphere and character of this "little island in the Caribbean." Apart from Russel and producer Denise Patience, the film crew was Cuban: cinematographer Alejandro Perez, sound recordist Lenin de los Reyes, production manager Elaine Santos, and local liaison Alex Alday.
