Spring Thaw / 1987

During the spring thaw, when the hills in Appenze11 are clad in a patchwork of green and white, buckets filled with water glide slowly up and down the slope. The gentle movement ultimately becomes a tumultuous cadence. Shots are fired, riddling the buckets with bullet holes. The water gradually begins to flow. This is the climax of a ritual, whose beginnings lie deep within the mountain. As the water is propelled through the air to the melting slopes, the water begins to gush forth, until the fountain in the valley almost overflows.

By the time he is formally diagnosed with serious Alzheimer, she realizes how badly she really knew her family, having ran from her past after the trauma of witnessing her mother's suicide at age seven, and tries to talk it trough with Ryan and dad while he still has lucid moments.

Animated short film painted with oil on transparent acetate. This project is about the poetic instant. Just as a Haiku, it cannot be defined as such only by its metric; an instant cannot be defined according to its duration. The duration of an instant is similar to the vibration of a note, it passes through our body and leaves a resonance; we don't know when it starts or when it ends. The moment dissolves and makes way, but leaves a trail in its path. The instant is poetic because it is situated between what we don't have and what is escaping from us.

Then all the burdens fall on the mother: bread-winning, taking care of her crippled husband and raising the kids, all amid external pressures from drought to vile businessmen.

Nel resuscitare un ricordo dimenticato della lotta, Off Frame rianima ciò che è all'interno dell'inquadratura, ma tesse anche una riflessione critica cercando ciò che è fuori dall'inquadratura.
