One Hundred Children Waiting for a Train / 1990

Tells the story of a group of Chilean children who discover a larger reality and a different world through the cinema. Each Saturday, Alicia Vega transforms the chapel of Lo Hermida into a film screening room as she conducts a workshop for children under the auspices of the Catholic church. The hundred or so children involved had never seen a movie, and in the workshop they see and learn about the cinema: photograms and moving images, projection, camera angles and movement, film genres, and much more. And they watch movies: Chaplin, Disney, Lamorisse's 'The Red Balloon,' the Lumieres' 'The Arrival of the Train to the Station.' Finally, each child designs his own film with drawings. And then, for the first time in most of their lives, the children got to the movies in downtown Santiago.

Herb’s life is a mess. He’s lost his welfare, can’t hold a job, can’t talk to his son, has a neighbour who won’t shut up and a diet that consists mainly of cheap beer and mushy peas. It’s no way to live and he knows it. Then he learns from a TV news report that Danish prisoners have it way better than he does: a job, accessible healthcare, the quiet of the countryside, even an HDTV. They’re practically living in hotels. He says goodbye (and good riddance) to his dingy flat and smuggles himself to Denmark aboard a cargo ship, landing in a quaint town with everything he needs -- including a bank to rob. But when he meets a friendly local barmaid and a lovable stray dog that won’t leave his side, he begins to wonder if prison really is his only chance of a fulfilling life.

Anna e Poppy Rose (Batsy Drake e Cary Grant) hanno tre figlioletti. Se Poppy si preoccupa per un bilancio familiare non certo faraonico, la generosissima Anna accetta di farsi carico anche di un'altra ragazzina e, più tardi, addirittura di un piccolo storpio. Ne nascono parecchie difficoltà, ma, col tempo, anche le gioie di una convivenza serena e felice. Più che la struttura della vicenda, abbastanza scontata nella sua marcia verso un esito di generale soddisfazione, vale la presenza di protagonisti di grosso mestiere che cavano il meglio da ogni situazione. Il film ha comunque dato origine, in Usa, a un fortunato "serial" televisivo.
