A Ritual for Metamorphosis / 2019
Heesoo Kwon’s A Ritual for Metamorphosis (탈피를 위한 의식 ) is a video in which the artist attempts to re-frame her traumatic personal experiences through creating an alternate reality. Kwon imagines virtual space as a utopian realm where one can reimagine and revisualise the past. Through the body of a nude 3D avatar, she travels back to her childhood home, stepping inside home video taken by her father of family gatherings long ago. There she faces patriarchal family rituals and coercive religious rituals that she didn’t notice when she was young, and interrupts them with her avatar. On the soundtrack, we hear the repetitive rhythm of traditional ironing sticks hitting stone, used both a metaphor for the invisible labour of Korean women, and as a sound of healing and catharsis.

The Metamorphosis / 2017
Translated from German, Die Verwandlung means, 'The Metamorphosis', a title that aligns with King Kong Magazine's 'Metamorphosis Issue' (September 2017), in which Jacobsen's imagery also appears. This notion encompasses a variety of the elements that were studied during Jacobsen’s residency at SHOWstudio in London. Jacobsen cites human shapes found in everyday objects, the intervention of the body through digital techniques, his experiences living abroad, and a focus on raw-looking materials and the unfinished in this work. Working with materials including plastic, dough, and inflated latex condoms, Jacobsen collaborated with mistress of make-up Alex Box to create a shape-shifting character played by dancer Jonathan Luke Baker. The final film and imagery reflect states of discord and harmony in the natural world, manipulated by Jacobsen's digital skill.
Metamorphosis / 2023
In Metamorphosis, filmmaker and media artist Pim Zwier chooses a highly original form to depict the life and work of the German artist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717), whose study of insects laid the foundations of entomology. Her most important work revolved around the metamorphosis of caterpillars into butterflies: she recorded the process in beautiful prints and engravings and was the first to draw the insects in combination with the plant on which they live.

For the multimedia exhibition Tangenten I (Tangents I), Dammbeck and co-organizer, sculptor and painter Frieder Heinze had planned to collaborate on a film that would combine non-camera animation with 35mm footage of a train ride between the two Dresden districts of Radebeul and Pieschen. When the exhibition was banned in 1978, Heinze turned to other projects, but Dammbeck continued working on the film by himself. Metamorphoses I—the first experimental film ever to be shown publicly in East Germany—marks the filmic beginning of Dammbeck’s long-term art project the Herakles-Konzept (Hercules Concept).
