A duet of found film material and video. The 35mm movie film image is unraveled without a shutter and filtered through video capture electronics. Still recognizable, although hazy and drifting in soft pink abstracts, figures in character emerge and fade, passing through the American desert landscape like phantoms.

Peter Wächtler's silent film "Untitled (Vampire)" is a mesmerising portrait of a solipsistic vampire and the secluded life he leads in a castle high in the mountains. In his diaristic accounts, existentialism meets the small comforts of consumption culture in the most bizarre yet plausible manners.

In a recent series of animated videos I've attached MOCAP data to simulations like cloth, soft bodies, hair, and boids. The results are like ghosts and monsters... they maintain realistic and believable motion because of their origination in human movement systems but they are released as abstract digital beings... as if the nude descending the staircase removed it's skin to reveal an array of data points.

Nails in the Jaw—secreted from the lip—bitten from the mind. They eat from the pot—brewing their purged longings— sweltering from the heat—water trickling down their finger tips, into a puddle around them. The pool forms--sinking underneath. -Emily Irvine

Dynasty Handbag must pack a go bag for vague disaster. What are the necessities she shall take with her into the unknown future? Is there a single object which will once and for all guarantee her survival, her self-worth, her youthful good looks and her totalitarian potential?

An experimental short about tinnitus, shot on an early digital camera.
Untitled (Revenant) / 2002
In Friedman's earlier work, she explored portrait films and dreamscapes. "Untitled (Revenant)" (2002) combines these explorations. Her camera follows a man as he muses over the surroundings, years of possessions accumulated around him. A figure enters the space, but they never share the same space at the same time, giving a sense of objects and environment continuing through time, during and after owners and occupants. (Note: The home is in Chicago, a different art collector from "Robert's Place".)

"The film’s haunting images are accompanied by the continuous sound of a helicopter circling overhead, which at the close gives way to the distant sound of police sirens. The beams of light, which seem to emanate from above, could be confused with helicopter searchlights, a reading whose symbolic significance evokes both security and baleful scrutiny. These sounds, however, are not only immediately associated with the events of September 11; they have also become a ubiquitous presence in the urban sonic landscape. Murray reveals the subtle disconnect of sound and image only gradually, allowing conscious recognition to develop slowly in viewing the film." -Whitney Biennial catalog, (2004)

Undulating surfaces, shifting horizons and perspectives merge with layered landscapes shimmering in hyper-saturated color and textured brilliance. Within the liminal space of sea and land, a shapeshifting woman—the mythic Selkie—breaks through the watery surface to search for her lost love.

Untitled (34bsp) is a 35mm film that was shot on-site at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, an iconic building designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer which has been the home of the Bienal de São Paulo since 1957. In this new work, which was co-produced by Phileas, Fleischmann reflects on the cultural impact of the monumental 30.000 square meter pavilion and interacts with its physical space through the medium of film, using a series of large, site-specific cameras that become sculptural forms traveling through the building from floor to ceiling.

Julien Creuzet develops a body of work which relies on hybridization as an essential driving force. While confronting history, representations, and social realities from here and elsewhere, the artist proposes a work that ties poetry and politics, found objects and technological devices, personal experience and attentiveness to the world.
