It’s a story about adventure, growing up and the pursuit of an impossible dream.

The Casting / 2007
Omer Fast’s video installation The Casting is based on interviews held with a U.S. Army sergeant before his renewed deployment in Iraq. Fast describes the project: “During several days he told me two stories which I have interwoven. The first took place in Bavaria and describes the sergeant’s relationship with a German girl who loves speed and self-mutilation. The second story takes place outside Baghdad and deals with a bomb on the roadside and a tragic mistake.” Fast took these two stories and processed them into a screenplay, which he then had interpreted by actors as a series of silent tableaux.
The Castle /
Based on Franz Kafka's The Castle. A certain K. appears in a snow-covered godforsaken village as if out of nowhere. All the power in the village belongs to the mysterious Castle that strangers are barred from accessing. K. presents himself to the locals as the Land Surveyor "summoned by the Governor himself." But he is denied work and a place to stay. The only person that doesn't turn her back on him is barmaid Frieda, lover of the powerful official Klamm. K. seeks a meeting with Klamm thinking that is the only way to get something out of the soulless bureaucratic machine. But without realizing it, he soon begins to play by its rules, setting himself up for inevitable defeat.

The Cast: Procession /
The Cast (Procession) recalls the the protests that broke out among extras in 1958 during filming of the Hollywood production Ben Hur in the Cinecittà film studio near Rome, which was originally founded by Mussolini. Thousands of unemployed workers had hoped to be hired for the scenes featuring human masses. When they were turned away they stormed the film studio. In the film, the voices of the protesters of yesterday are played by cultural activists of the present: members of the Teatro Valle Occupato, who came together in 2011 in order to save the Teatro Valle, the oldest theatre in Rome, by assuming collective management of the theatre. - e-flux
