"Notes from the subsurface" interrogates deep subsurface environments and the extremophiles that live within them. The film considershow they can function at extreme depths and pressure within challenging conditions such as highly acidic, high temperature, high radiation, low oxygen and methane heavy environments. Through sci-fi narratives, the film exposes non-human and multi-species perspectives, hidden networks and unheard voices. Beginning with birds-eye-view footage of the Burgess Shale in the Canadian Rockies, the second part of the film takes a science fiction approach. The narrators develop proposals for adapting humans to livein these extreme.

notes before the revolution is the first part of a film diary series postcards from Hong Kong. It documents the passing of the filmmaker’s father and the fateful historical changes of Hong Kong in the turmoil years of 1996-98. Personal and social events intertwined, destined to become parallel metaphors for each other. To record the personal is to make a testimony of time and space that is particular, lived as well as historical.

Beyond the Grace Note examines the hard climb to the podium faced by women conductors today. Leading female conductors open up for the first time about the struggles they faced throughout their careers and how their love of music saved them in this difficult and competitive profession.

Notes from the Farm / 2015

I shot and hand-processed “live action” scenes on the farm, using organic materials (trees, flowers, plants) as “mattes” for my post-residency work in the optical printer, where I combined these mattes and scenes with handmade “botanicollage” film that I created from plants gathered at the farm.

This new film work by Ludmilla Andrews - reconfigured from Test Dept’s archive and with commentaries by cultural critic Alexei Monroe and Test Dept's Paul Jamrozy - explores the collective's legacy through the lens of some of the late Mark Fisher’s key concepts. In so doing, it raises a series of key themes and questions about Test Dept’s history and current work in relation to the multiple political, social and cultural challenges of 2021. It was created especially for the Goldsmiths, Visual Cultures department's 2021 Mark Fisher Memorial Lecture, which was held on 29 January 2021.
