In January 2016 a pair of friends set off to shoot a documentary on the refugee crisis. They had no budget and no plan, but they did have a yellow van, a camera and each other. During the months ahead they would have all their assumptions challenged as daily the first hand experience of looking at the lives of refugees transformed perspectives learnt through the media. From dropping the cameras to help those arriving on the shores of Lesvos, to witnessing the closure of the borders of Europe, to being arrested in the mountains of the Balkans, the journey would transform their lives. In an environment of fear, hatred and suspicion in Europe, "The March of Hope" is a celebration of everything which makes us human, and a challenge in film to the xenophobia growing in modern Europe.

"On October 21, 1967 over 100,000 people came to Washington D.C. to oppose the war in Vietnam. The rally assembled in front of washinton monument, then marched to the pentagon. There they were met by U.S. Troops, marshalls, tear gas, etc. At the time it was difficult to judge the impact of the demonstration, but most of the participants came away strongly affected by their experience. It was an important event in American history, but one badly covered by the press, who left it to the demonstrators themselves to write and film a record of the march."

On the defensive early in World War II, the Allies claimed key victories in 1942 at El Alamein in North Africa, Guadalcanal in the Pacific and Stalingrad in the Soviet Union. This reversal of fortunes, along with an edge in industrial production and wartime technology, led to a change in strategy. The Allies decided to take the war to the Axis homelands. This fourth lecture by Victor Davis Hanson guides viewers through the Allied invasion of Italy, the island-hopping toward Japan and the landing at Normandy. Hanson also explores a great irony of the war -- that the Axis powers did not work well together despite their shared fascist ideology and that the Allies clashed philosophically but overcame their differences to battle a common enemy.
