Sensing the World by Echo / 2006
A "Frankenstein's monster" of a movie, stitched together with parts robbed from the graveyard of B-movie horror and sci-fi films. A colorful, animated paper collage, the video is assembled from scraps of 1950s and '60s children's books, how-to manuals, science texts and encyclopedias. A "biography" using science fiction elements to explore the classic themes (otherness, paranoia, alternate reality) of the genre. The video is a life story constructed from pieces of other stories, much the way we base our ideas of self on pieces of information we receive from our environment.
Echoes of the Empire: Beyond Genghis Khan / 2021
In this cinematic view of Mongolia’s past and present, film director & novelist Robert H. Lieberman and long-time creative collaborators PhotoSynthesis Productions take us inside this vast but little-known land. New York Times best-selling author Jack Weatherford (“Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World”) delves into the extraordinary life and times of Genghis Khan. His Mongol Empire, which encompassed all of Asia, much of the Middle East and Europe continues to affect us even today. The film’s soundtrack weaves from ancient throat singing to Russian-influenced opera to contemporary Mongolian rock. Intimate stories told by Mongolians, from nomads to city dwellers, provide a rare insight into their psyches and the challenges they face in their post-Soviet world.

Jericho's Echo - Punk Rock In The Holy Land /
Mohawks, stage diving, fists flying. Homemade band t-shirts, circle pits, singalongs. These scenes are not unfamiliar; They have flooded pop culture imagery for over 25 years. The punk rock ethos gains new relevance in Israel, however, when band members' choices are often between picking up a guitar or picking up a gun. Like the country itself, the punk rock music scene in Israel is young, small, and passionate. The bands have differing political views, but they share a struggle for freedom in a country where they feel restricted by religious laws, mandatory military service and an explosive political situation. Looking at the present situation in Israel through the eyes of punk rockers is not a common vantage point, but the voices of these young people will illuminate the thoughts of a generation of disillusioned Israelis who yearn for an end to the bleak politics of war, so that they might live out their dreams.

Echo and the Bunnymen • Shine So Hard / 1981
Shine So Hard is an abstract and fragmentary (*) short film made in 1981, As the post-punk band Echo and the Bunnymen had concluded the tour promoting their debut album “Crocodiles”, Bill Drummond, their manager, hatched a plan for a one-off gig on 17th January 1981. It was to be a special event, a mystery show. The venue, at first a secret location was, in fact, the Victorian concert hall at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton, a quiet spa town in Derbyshire’s picturesque Peak District. “Shine So Hard” documents the event, what Ian Pye of the Melody Maker described as ‘A Coppola inspired vision of Armageddon’. The film was released on the 13th of August 1981. It was premiered at London’s ICA and screened for two weeks there and elsewhere in the UK. (*) The book drummer Pete de Freitas is reading, is Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye”.
Our bodies are the vessels of experience, and the evocations of echoing memories are what’s keeping us alive. / 2021
A dive into the mind of an adolescent who is at the fringe of youth as they reminisce about their teenage years. It is a quick and manic run down through the memories they have and how they have to eventually outgrow them. A coming-of-age short film where the future and reality are dreadful enemies.
