L'ambiente non è dunque Cipro ma un college della Carolina del sud. Odine (Phifer) è lo studente leader, bravo in tutto, specialmente nello sport, è infatti il capitano della squadra di basket. E' amato da Desi (Stiles), bellissima e figlia del preside. Lo Jago moderno sarebbe Hugo, al quale dà corpo e volto l'emergente Josh Hartnett. La storia si sviluppa, appunto, secondo Shakespeare. Hugo instilla tremenda gelosia in Odine, che alla fine ucciderà l'amata.
