Here in Lisbon / 2015
Welcome to Lisbon: there are mermaids by the Tagus and birds flying over the old city; there are mad scientists and singing fish; lost tourist guides and lost tourists; fado and sad guitars. What a weird city you may think - but no. Lisbon is about being different, sarcastic, welcoming to foreigners even in an economic crisis. Different directors became fascinated by our strangeness. We became fascinated by these directors. The city is never the same in these four episodes, here in Lisbon.

On the Edge of Lisbon / 2013
During the low tides, the Tagus estuary is an extraordinary place. The boats are resting on the sand. The vase of the river is revealed, black and thick. Vasco da Gama's bridge seems to move towards the continent. On the horizon, we guess some silhouettes. Sometimes those are flamingos. At other times, those are clams gleaners coming to work by hundreds.
Guinea-Bissau, Indial Village in Lisbon / 1931
The public rushes around the Minister to visit, as at the zoo, a Guinean village reconstituted in a park of Lisbon: daily activities, Muslim prayer, women with bare breasts. The camera pins faces, attitudes, busts. Then accompanies a dance to the sound of marimbas and drums. To conclude this exotic visit, kings of the tribe are decorated by a general, under the bust of the Republic.

Wild Planet – Lisbon in Jeopardy /
Modern science still researches how exactly tsunamis originate and cause additional havoc in cities they affect. A fascinating case for reconstruction purposes is the ruin of the Portuguese capital Lisbon, on 1 November 1755. The Tsunami killed a fifth of the population. Fear-paralyzed king Joseph's able prime minister, marquess Pombal, took charge of rescue and reconstruction. Minor seismic activity and religious fanatics kept complicating life. This made Pombal the real, absolutist ruler, who finally modernized Portugal.

Following the footsteps of Céline - a local foreigner who has lived in Portugal for 20 years - we are introduced to Ivone Días and Marta Miranda, two female singers from different generations who fight for the survival of their art and their community. Their common language is Fado, a traditional style of music that talks about the daily struggle of living. With the lyrics of fado songs taking us through the story, the film explores the relationship between fado singers and the ever-changing world around them.
1755 - The Lisbon disaster / 2020
It was the most destructive natural disaster in the history of Europe: On November 1, 1755, an earthquake shook the seabed off Lisbon. Buildings collapse in the city, thousands of people die. The survivors flee to the port - and are surprised by a huge tsunami wave. If it hadn't happened on All Saints' Day, the Lisbon catastrophe would certainly not have been so devastating. A large proportion of people perish in the churches where the faithful have just gathered to worship. To this day, no one knows how many actually died from the earthquake. Estimates speak of up to 100,000 dead. The reason for the disaster: off the Portuguese coast, several continental plates are colliding at the bottom of the Atlantic, there is an increased danger of earthquakes - until today. A research team is currently examining the Gulf of Cadiz for traces. The aim is to set up an effective tsunami early warning system.
