Hsiao-pei carries on her family’s fortune telling tradition, almost exclusively giving young women love advice. She also runs her college’s tarot club through which she meets the playfully cocky Chiung-nan, who uses the cards to ask her out. A rocky romance ensues, replete with a clumsy seduction, an unexpected fire and both figurative and literal ball busting.

The Cloud in Love / 1959

A Cloud in Love is a unique film based on a script by a Turkish poet Nâzım Hikmet Ran (who lived in exile in Soviet Russia). It’s an allegorical story about an evil desert spirit who tries to destroy an oasis that is tendered by beautiful Aishe. Luckily, a Cloud falls in love with her and protects the oasis, although it costs him a life. It features mixed technique (puppets, marionettes, and hand-drawn animation).

Alarm in the Clouds / 1978

In defiance of all the laws of physics Mr. Tau is walking on the wing of an aircraft flying close to Prague. Young Alenka is enthusiastic, but the other passengers are horrified. The security inspector Málek believes the report from the crew to be a code alerting him to a hijack, and orders an emergency landing. In the confusion at the airport the fairytale Mr. Tau disappears into one of the halls.

Head in the Clouds / 1994

One day, Mu Pa is arrested after cutting down a plant that is protected under national laws. Mu Pa’s father tries to marry Ji Ni to A Da to settle Mu Pa’s case. On her wedding day, Ji Ni, dressed in a traditional Lisu wedding outfit, disappears into a foggy mountain. Three months later, Lisu people start moving out of the mountains where they have lived for generations side-by-side with their worshipped ancestors.

Zbigniew Burzyński (1902-1971) is the pioneer of ballooning in Poland, a balloon constructor and double winner of the Gordon Cup – the International Ballooning Competition. In the 1960s, he tried to reactivate the discipline, for example in Czechoslovakia. A balloon flight with Burzyński and his wife became a great opportunity to take picturesque shots of the Polish landscape from a bird's eye view. From the ground, soldiers, farmers and children send greetings to the couple. The human world seems to be idyllic. It looks like a part of the greater world order, friendly to those who dared to soar up.
