Velázquez: The Painter of Painters / 1991

His life and work are closely bound to the court of King Philip IV, who appointed him as court painter and on whose orders he travelled through Italy. Ambitious courtier that he was, the Spaniard was a master of observation and visual manipulation. Day of the Painter is a 1960 American short film directed by Robert P. Davis. It is a satire which portrays a typical day in the life of a "drip and splatter style" abstract artist, from the time he begins his paintings until he finishes. The film won an Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.

The film tells the story of one citizen from Jalouzi, one of the largest slums in Haiti, who is determined to bring color to the impoverished area by helping paint the entire town, literally. Armed with brushes of bright blues, pastel pinks, and sunshine yellows, he’s helping to mobilize citizens of all ages, determined to turn the grey town into a rainbow full of color to lead the way to a brighter Haiti.

In an art class, naive Kae lays his eyes on his classmate, Evelyn, and feels an instant connection to her. WHO IS THE PAINTER? /
“Who is the Painter?” is a short film featuring featuring Christiane Kubrick and Jonathan Anderson directed by Christiane's grandson, Jack Elliot Hobbs. The short film was premiered at “II Cinemino” in collaboration with MUBI after the bran's Men’s AW24 & Women’s Pre-Fall 24 show in Milan. Christiane Kubrick, born in Germany in 1932 into a theatrical family, initially pursued a career as a dancer and actress. Her journey led her to the film "Paths of Glory," where she met her future husband, Stanley Kubrick. In the late sixties, the Kubrick family moved to England, and Christiane transitioned to her true passion, painting.
