The Pink Panther Cartoon Collection Vol. 4 (1971-1975) / 2019

This collection includes cartoons in chronological order from 1971 to 1975 - Having established himself as a bone fide TV star in 1969-70, the Pink Panther returns to the fine art of making theatrical shorts in 1971. Helping the Panther recapture his silver-screen luster are established directors Hawley Pratt (A FLY IN THE PINK), Gerry Chiniquy (SALMON PINK, PINK AYE), and Art Davis (PINK TUBA-DORE). Joining their ranks are veteran Warners helmer Robert McKimson (PINK DA VINCI) and artful behind-the-scenes DePatie-Freleng multi-tasker Art Leonardi (PINK PLASMA, PINK CAMPAIGN). Still in touch with the Temper of the Times, the Panther amusingly tackles a few then-trending 1970s topics such as environmentalism and animal-rights advocacy

This collection includes Pink Panther cartoons from 1966 to 1968 - By the end of the 1960s, The Pink Panther had achieved the status of iconic cartoon character, and the cosmopolitan cat left his big-city habitat and began crossing into more universal comedy settings: a military base (G.I. Pink), caveman times (Prehistoric Pink and Extinct Pink) and Olde England (Pink Valiant and Pinkcome Tax). But the panther never completely changed his stripes. In color-splashed urban landscapes (a hallmark of the DePatie-Freleng studios), the sublime feline continued to engage in duels of wits—with the establishment “Little Man” as well as the occasional inanimate object (a cuckoo clock in In The Pink of the Night)

In this next-to-last phase of the Pink Panther's amazing run of new theatrical short-subjects, newsworthy mid-to-late 1970s trends and fads such as Rock'em-Sock'em robots (PINK ARCADE), compulsive dieting (DIETETIC PINK), and the merchandizing of "pet rocks" (Art Leonardi's ROCKY PINK) come into focus. Fairy-tale spoofs (PINK PIPER, CAT AND THE BEANSTALK) make a modest comeback, but much more impressive are brand-new wrinkles on familiar Panther themes like sleep deprivation (Art Davis's PINK TRUMPET), wars against a pesky fly (turning positively apocalyptic in Sid Marcus's PINK S.W.A.T.) and journeys through surreality (SHERLOCK PINK, Robert McKimson's last and probably best "Panther" pic).

Finding immediate fame in the opening title sequence of Blake Edwards 1964 classic comedy The Pink Panther, the feline embodiment of the Swinging Sixties cool quickly become the star of his own animated shorts produced by the DePatie-Frelend Studio. Unlike the loud and manic characters of other animation studios, the Pink Panther was lithe and easygoing, and moved to the rhythm of jazzy theme music of the great Henry Mancini (Breakfast at Tiffany's). Usually thwarting the plans of a variety of uptight little men, the hep cat's fresh approach to cartoon comedy earned an Academy Award for his first solo effort: The Pink Phink (Best Animated Short Film, 1964) and remains the era's most iconic animation sensation
