Nel 1923, André Sauvage ha prodotto il suo primo film La Traversée du Grépon. Dedicato all'alpinismo nel massiccio del Monte Bianco, questo documentario è una performance che gli è valsa il riconoscimento dei suoi coetanei. André Sauvage e compagni decidono di scalare il Grépon, la più nota delle Aiguilles de Chamonix, nel Massiccio del Monte Bianco. Al mattino presto attraversano la Mer de Glace, scalano cime rocciose, calano in corda doppia, attraversano crepacci, nevai e lunghi seracchi. Dopo sedici ore di fatica, gli alpinisti tornano al rifugio. Con la sua macchina fotografica, Sauvage documenta la difficile impresa, mostrando anche la sua forte passione per la montagna. "La percezione più profonda delle montagne inizia dove finisce l'intelligenza." (A. Sauvage). Sono scomparse due versioni lunghe del film, una di 90 e l'altra di 51 minuti e si conservano solo sette minuti.

Carried by the voice of Valérie Lemercier, this portrait of the artist allows us to rediscover his most beautiful songs, from Les Crayons to La Tendresse, and the highlights of his filmography, from the cult scenes of La Traversée de Paris, Le Corniaud and La Grande Vadrouille to Le Cercle rouge. We also rediscover the richness of his career as a singer and actor, with some little known nuggets. The testimony of Bourvil's two sons, unpublished family films and numerous archives tell the story of the all too brief life of this endearing man.
