Sunspots and Solar Flares / 2013
The starting point for this work is the astrologer Robin Amstrong's recording, Nuclear war 1984? from 1976 and a free unused residual material from the musician James Pants, that are combined with a found footage material, from a Teaching Aid Dep-film about a school in Toronto from 1968.
Flare Out / 1992
Sound: unrecognition unidentified, in time, you hear? Image: recognition identified, out of time in time; not not knowing the unknown but not knowing the known, no trace of 'no trace of any thing'. Flare Up / 1991
A follow-up video to Pilař’s programme works of destructive animation which started in the 1960s. In Flare Up, plastic cones and toys are subject to destruction, but it is again a revision of his previous work with a new video technology. Pilař electronically embedded his original film There is a Doll Living in the Apple Tree (1984) into his assemblages and supplemented it with computer animation by Martin Hřebačka.

Solar Flare Arkestral Marching Band / 2011
Sun Ra’s anthem Space Is the Place performed by The Rich South High School Marching Band in Chinatown Square, Chicago. Cauleen Smith organised and filmed this energetic flash-mob performance, showing the unsuspecting passers-by who gather to listen. The young men and women let nothing, not even rain, bring the performance to a halt.
