Recently retired from a company after some 40 years of service, Sunada Tomoaki, father of filmmaker Sunada Mami, is diagnosed with terminal cancer and only has a few months left to live. True to his pragmatic core, Sunada sets out to accomplish a list of tasks before his final departure: playing with his grandchildren, planning his own funeral, saying “I love you” to his wife, among others. In a voice over, using words taken from her father’s diary, filmmaker Sunada speaks tenderly in first person as the elder Sunada.

Virginia, da soli tre mesi sposata a Francesco Ducci, sin da piccola aveva dimostrato doti istintive di chiaroveggenza percependo il suicidio della mamma a Dover mentre lei si trovava in collegio a Firenze. Ora, mentre ritorna in macchina dall'aeroporto ove ha salutato il marito in viaggio di lavoro verso Londra, intravvede con molti particolari un delitto che sarebbe accaduto nella villa di campagna del Ducci. Fatte delle ricerche, Virginia scopre il cadavere di Agnese Bignardi, uccisa nel 1972 e murata. La polizia incrimina Francesco, già amante della ragazza scomparsa, e lo arresta. Virginia, frugando nella visione avuta, con l'aiuto della cognata Gloria, dell'amico parapsicologo Luca Fattori e della segretaria di questi, Paola, indirizza i sospetti su Emilio Rospini, a sua volta amante di Agnese e professionalmente nei pasticci. I nuovi elementi permettono a Virginia di fare scarcerare Francesco. Ma tutto si volge a suo danno.
