1940, Kawamoto Akiko lives in Hiroshima with her father and mother, Genkichi and Shizuko, as well as her two younger brothers. Akiko loves playing her favourite piano. As the war situation worsens, she is busy helping out the war efforts. On the morning of August 6, 1945, she disobeys her father and heads into the centre of town for work. In Hiroshima 75 years later, her favourite piano remains, restored and playable following its survival of the atomic bombing

Two sisters living on a peach farm in Koori town, Fukushima Prefecture,are opposites. Haruka Miyamoto feels less beautiful than her sister Akiba Miyamoto and hates being compared to her. She finds comfort in playing a piano in a barn. A year after the Great East Japan Earthquake, she decides she wants to be a pianist. Akiba, for her part, moved to Tokyo to attend college. When she moves back to Koori, Haruka is unsettled and memories connected to the disaster she has tried to forget resurface.

Quando cresci con l’idea che costruire è un’arte, ogni volta ti sembra di assistere a un miracolo. Così è per Renzo Piano, architetto italiano tra i più celebri al mondo, autore del Centre Pompidou di Parigi, dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica a Roma e degli edifici del New York Times. A raccontare questo genio dell’architettura è un genio del cinema, Carlos Saura, che segue Piano nella progettazione del Centro Botìn a Santander, in Spagna. Il racconto in presa diretta delle fasi della costruzione del Centro diventa presto riflessione sul processo creativo. Per capire che l’arte, sia essa cinema o architettura, non è un atto prevedibile. Spesso è un po’ come guardare al buio: prima di capire ciò che accadrà, bisogna dare il tempo agli occhi di adattarsi.

Piano to Zanskar is a British documentary film which tells the story of the highest piano delivery attempt in history. It follows Desmond Gentle, a piano tuner from Camden Town in London, and his two apprentices: Anna Ray and Harald Hagegard, as well as a 100-year old Broadwood & Sons upright piano, on their way from London to Zanskar in the Indian Himalayas.
