On the way back, Indy and company succumb to disease themselves, and are picked up by Albert Schweitzer and the orderlies from his jungle hospital. At first resistant to being treated by a German, Indy soon begins to realize that Schweitzer is not interested in war, only attempting to cure people against all odds.

Un treno passa dalla stazione e scarica una grossa pila di bagagli su Paperino senza fermarsi. Paperino scopre che una delle casse contiene uno struzzo vivo, e, legata al collo dell'animale, trova la seguente nota: "Mi chiamo ORTENSIA. Per favore dammi da mangiare e da bere. P.S. Mangio di tutto". Ortensia comincia a mangiare tutto ciò che può trovare presso la stazione, cominciando con il messaggio. Mangia poi una fisarmonica, una sveglia e diversi palloncini. Questo fa venire a Ortensia il singhiozzo, che Paperino cerca di curare spaventandola.
